What is an oyster?

An oyster is way more than just a rock at the bottom of the sea. Since it's a BIVALVE MOLLUSK, this little guy has a soft, squishy body that's actually quite delicate. To keep from gettin' eaten, it builds a two-part HARD SHELL that acts like a suit of armor, holdin' the whole system together. Now, it doesn't hunt; instead, it's a FILTER FEEDER. It pumps ocean water through its body to trap TINY ALGAE for food, actin' like a natural water purifier! You'll usually find them in an OCEAN HABITAT, anchorin' themselves to reefs where the current brings plenty of snacks.
