Check out how geometry and numbers team up to solve for distance! First, we need a RIGHT TRIANGLE, which always has that perfect NINETY-DEGREE corner lookin' like a square. We call the two sides touchin' that corner the LEGS, labeled A and B, while the long diagonal side is the HYPOTENUSE, labeled C. Now, imagine buildin' a literal square off each side; the area of those squares is just the side length multiplied by itself, or A-SQUARED and B-SQUARED. Here’s the clever part: the AREA SUM of those two smaller squares perfectly fills up the big C-SQUARED square on the long side! That’s the A-squared plus B-squared equals C-squared secret. Because we know this area balance, we can SOLVE LENGTH for any missin' side by usin' square roots to find the exact distance. Tiny Concepts.
