How does a volcano erupt?

To see why a volcano erupts, we have to look deep underground where the heat is intense! Way down at the bottom, there's a huge pocket called the *Magma Chamber* where super-heated rock melts into a thick, glowing liquid. Inside that liquid, tiny bubbles form and create *Gas Pressure*, which acts like a giant spring pushing everything toward the surface. When that pressure gets too strong, the magma is forced up through the *Main Vent*, which is basically the volcano's massive escape pipe. Once it squeezes out and hits the air, we call it *LAVA*, and it starts flowin' down the sides as it begins to cool.
